Nike Play City
Play City is a united project of YouthNoise and Nike, Inc. The main aim of Play City is to join young people to find innovative new ways to use sports to change the world. Play City includes different sub projects like Beat Gasoline, Step it Up, Focus the Nation, Play it Forward. Each sub project is made like a website within global Play City site.
Play City — is a place where sports change people's lives.
Things we used to create Play City and it's subprojects:
- Zend Framework. A powerful PHP framework from it's authors. Zend Framework allows rapid, secure and reliable development of websites. In our case, we have created web-application (what common users see when they visit website) and content management system. The last one is built within user's interface — so administrator of Play City just have to login on any Play City page to get administration functions.
Each subproject of Play City has it's own controllers, models and views.
- xAjax. A PHP class library implementation of AJAX that gives developers the ability to create rich Internet applications. We used xAjax to create handy elements for voting, rating, publishing etc. Also, xAjax is used to build up administration tools on Play City pages.
- tinyMCE. WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor. We used it to provide suitable elements for content editing.
A lot of third party components to create different polls and widgets were used too.
New Play City
YouthNoise and Nike have come together to create Play City, a youth-led movement that uses sport as a catalyst for personal and social change. We envision a world in which every village, town and metropolis is part of our global Play City and every individual has the opportunity to play. Our goal is to build a community of millions of young people to inspire and activate their peers to play and address the most pressing issues in their communities by using sports.
